Workshops are offered to support parents & caregivers in gaining a deeper understanding of the development of their child’s speech, language, and social communication.  Parents & caregivers will discuss, learn, and make friends.

Jamie Liebman-Miller, a speech and language pathologist who has extensive experience working with infants and toddlers, leads the workshops.

Classes are held at the Society Hill Enrichment Center.  Each class is 45 minutes and an 8 week session is $160.  A free trial class is welcomed at any time as are drop-in classes for $24.  Advanced registration is necesary for all class including dop-ins.

I Like To Talk – Babies’ Firsts

This workshop focuses on the beginning stages of communication.  Encouraging and teaching you and your child how to communicate with each other most effectively.  Babble, gestures, and other communication techniques will be practiced and discussed during class.  Developing good communication skills and learning to understand each other is a building block for speech development and helps ease frustrations for everyone in the family.

This class is for infants & young toddlers who are beginning to babble up until they start developing their vocabulary.  Babies with or without delays or speech & language needs are welcome (average age 4 mos – 1 ½).

I Like To Talk – Toddler Communication

This workshop focuses on speech and language enrichment.  It encourages development of speech sounds, ability to say words with more than one syllable, combining two words together, accurate pronunciation, use of descriptions to gain what is wanted and/or needed, and development of appropriate social skills.   Additionally, parents will be able to increase their knowledge about the varying range of what is typical for your child’s speech & language development and when to consult a specialist versus feeling confident that your child is on track.

This class is good for children with or without delays or speech & language needs.  Children who are late talkers, are trying to or beginning to use words to communicate, or who are already talking but want to talk more will benefit (average age 1 ½ - 3 ½).

Let’s Sign!

This workshop teaches and uses baby sign language during an interactive play based session. It is intended to give you and your child a means to communication with each other while your child is learning to use his/her voice to talk.  Baby signs encourage verbal communication and allow your child to get their needs and wants met.  The accomplishment of being able to communicate and get something in return is priceless for both parent and child.

Babies and children of any age who would benefit from the use of baby signs to help elicit speech are welcome.
